Privacy policy
In short
- The game is for everyone aged 6 and up, including children. We treat every player as a child and collect no personal information: nothing about you is sent to us or to anyone else.
- The game has no ads. It contains no ad software, does not use the advertising ID, and has no consent form because there is nothing to consent to.
- There is no account or sign-in, no chat and nothing to share with other players. We don't run game servers.
- Your progress and settings are stored on your device.
- The game uses no analytics, crash reporting or tracking service.
For young players
Hello! Here is what happens to your information, in a few words. You can read this with a grown-up.
- The game never asks for your name, your age, your email or where you live.
- Your stars, your words and where you are in the story stay on your phone or tablet. We can't see them.
- There are no ads in the game. Hints come from playing, and if you run out, the hint button still helps you: you just wait a little longer.
- If anything about the game worries you, talk to a grown-up you trust. They can write to us.
Who we are
Word Scene: Lanternleaf (“the game”) is made by Brightquill, an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Android app, the web demo, and this website. You can reach us at support@luantien.com. The terms of use explain the rules for playing.
What the game keeps on your device
The game saves the following on your phone or tablet (or, for the web demo, in your browser's storage). It is used only to run the game, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Levels you have finished, the case files you have built and the postcards and knowledge cards in your journal | To remember where you are in the story |
| Your hint tokens and the day you last got the daily gift | To run the hint system |
| Your Glowink (the in-game ink you earn by playing; it cannot be bought), the stars of each scene, the words you have found, your lantern days, your Daily Leaf results, the letters and stamps you have received | To show your rewards and your word book, and to count the days you play |
| Your settings (music and sound volume, reduce motion, plain clues on mouse levels, show lantern days, the daily reminder and its hour), which one-time tips you have seen, and the date you first opened the game | To keep the game the way you set it |
| A short activity log of game events, such as a level started or finished, how long it took and how many hints were used. It contains no name, contact details or device identifiers. | To help us test the game and fix problems. It stays on your device and older entries are replaced by newer ones. It leaves your device only if you choose to send it to us, for example with a bug report. |
Settings → Reset progress deletes your finished levels, their stars, case files, journal, one-time tips and the activity log; it keeps your hint tokens, Glowink, words, lantern days, Daily Leaf results, letters, stamps, your settings and the date you first opened the game. To delete everything, clear the app's storage or uninstall the game. In the web demo, clear this site's data in your browser.
If backup is turned on in your phone's settings, Android may copy the game's save (your progress and settings, not the pictures) into your own device backup, which is managed by your device and your Google account, not by us, and restore it when you reinstall.
Daily reminder and sharing
The Android app can remind you once a day to play, only between 8 am and 8 pm. The reminder is off until you turn it on in Settings, and Android asks for permission to show notifications. It is a notification scheduled on your device; nothing is sent to us or to a server. It never scolds or hurries you, and missing a day never takes anything away. Turn it off in Settings, or in your phone's notification settings.
After a Daily Leaf you can share a short line such as "Lanternleaf Daily Leaf #27 ★★★". It never contains the answers or anything about you. The game hands the text to your phone's share menu (or copies it in the web demo) only when you tap Share; where it goes is up to you, and nothing is sent to us.
No ads
The game shows no ads: no video ads, no banners, no ads when it starts or between levels, and no links to other apps inside play. It contains no advertising software, so no ad network receives any information from it, and it does not use the advertising ID (we have also removed the advertising ID permission from the app). Hint tokens come only from playing: a few to start, a daily gift, new scenes and the Glowink shop. If you run out, the Hint button keeps working; you just wait a little longer between hints.
Google Play
The Android app is installed and updated by Google Play, which also downloads the pictures of later chapters when you reach them. That is Google Play's own service, under the Google Privacy Policy; the game itself sends nothing about you with it.
Children and families
The game is designed for everyone aged 6 and up, and many players are children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 or under the age of digital consent where they live. We don't ask for a name, age, email, photo or voice. The game has no chat, no way to send pictures or messages to other players, no links to other apps inside play, and it never asks for location, camera, microphone or contacts.
The game itself sends no information about players anywhere: it has no ads, no ad software, no analytics and no accounts, and it does not use the advertising ID.
Parents and guardians can write to support@luantien.com with any question. We hold no information about your child, so there is nothing for us to show you or delete; everything the game keeps is on the device, and you can remove it with Settings → Reset progress, by clearing the app's storage, or by uninstalling the game.
High privacy by default. In line with the UK Age Appropriate Design Code (the Children's Code) and the EU GDPR, the game has no profiling, no location, no ads and no settings that nudge players to share more. The daily reminder is off until someone turns it on, and nothing in the game punishes a player for taking a break.
How long information is kept
- By us: nothing. We run no servers and receive no information about players.
- On the device: until you reset your progress, clear the app's storage or uninstall the game (see above). The activity log keeps only its most recent entries.
- Web demo and this website: your browser keeps the demo's progress until you clear the site's data; the hosting provider keeps its usual technical logs for a limited time under its own policy.
Analytics
The game does not use a third-party analytics or crash-reporting service, and it does not send usage data to us. The activity log described above never leaves your device unless you send it. We will not add any such service unless it is approved for apps used by children, and we will update this policy, and the store's data safety information, before that version is released.
Web demo and this website
The web demo and this website show no ads and use no cookies, analytics or tracking. The web demo keeps your progress in your browser's local storage. Like every website, the pages are delivered by a hosting provider that processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type to serve the pages and protect against abuse. The web demo may also load parts of its graphics engine and fonts from Google's content servers (gstatic.com), which receive the same kind of technical information.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information about you or your child, or to object to its use. Because we don't hold personal information about anyone, the data on your device is fully under your control (see above). If you have a question or a request, write to us and we will help.
Security
Saved game data is kept inside the app's private storage on your device, which other apps cannot read. The game sends no player data over the internet.
Changes to this policy
If the game changes how it handles information, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date before that version is released, and mention important changes in the app's release notes. We will never start collecting personal information from children without first telling parents and asking for their permission where the law requires it.
